Company Security Officer
A Company Security Officer is a person responsible for security who may perform duties in relation to one or more vessels, depending on the number or types of company vessels. The main functions of the Company Security Officer are:
- informing company management regarding the levels of threat that the company's vessel may encounter, based on appropriate risk assessment and other relevant information;
- ensuring the assessment of the security of the company’s vessel(s);
- ensuring the development, submission for approval and subsequent implementation and maintenance of the ship(s) security plan(s);
- ensuring that appropriate changes are made to the ship(s) security plan(s) to correct deficiencies and to meet the requirements for the security of a particular vessel;
- conducting internal audits and reviews of security activities;
- carrying out initial and subsequent inspections of the vessel (vessels) by the Administration or an organization recognized in the field of security;
- ensuring that deficiencies and inconsistencies revealed during internal audits, periodic reviews, security checks and compliance checks are promptly identified and corrected;
- promoting increased awareness among company employees of the importance of security issues and increased vigilance;
- ensuring proper training of persons responsible for the security of the vessel (vessels);
- ensuring effective communication and cooperation of command personnel with relevant port facility officials responsible for security;
- ensuring compatibility of security requirements with general maritime safety requirements;
- ensuring that security plans used by ships of the same type or group of ships take into account the specifics of each ship; and
- ensuring that any alternative or equivalent security systems approved for a particular ship or group of ships are maintained at all times.
The volume of the training program “Company Security Officer” is 40 ac. hours.
Based on the results of certification in the International Dangerous Goods and Containers Association, graduates receive certificates of advanced training and “Company Security Officer” certificates of international standard.
